Hazmat spill from car prompts temporary closure of west El Paso shopping area

A hazardous materials spill from a car prompted firefighters to temporarily close off a west El Paso strip shopping center for cleanup on Friday night.

It happened about 7:15 p.m. in the 4400 block of North Mesa Street near Executive Center.

The shopping strip impacted included a Subway and Mexican buffet restaurants, as well as insurance offices and a nail salon.

Firefighters said there no injuries or illnesses reported as a result of what they said turned out to be a minor spill.
