7 more El Paso virus deaths as young teens begin to be vaccinated
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health announced seven coronavirus-related deaths and 38 new cases Thursday morning.
The latest fatalities included:
- 2 men in their 50s
- 2 women in their 70s
- 2 men in their 70s
- 1 man in his 90s
El Paso County's pandemic death toll now stands at 2,585. There are 21 suspected Covid-19 deaths still being investigated by the health department.
El Paso health department data shows that 49% of El Pasoans over the age of 16 are now fully vaccinated, with 66.8% having received at least one. Health department data has not yet been updated to display how many more El Pasoans are now eligible to receive the vaccine. That will result in a change in El Paso's vaccination rate.
The City of El Paso announced it will begin administering the Pfizer vaccine to adolescents as young as 12 starting Thursday at the El Paso Convention Center by either appointment or walk-up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Meantime, the number of known active virus cases in El Paso County stands at 1,757.
There are 105 (-8) Covid-19 patients in El Paso hospitals with 33 (-2) of them in the ICU.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 135,229 confirmed cases with 130,795 reported recoveries.
