Active cases, hospitalizations continue to dip in El Paso; 2 additional virus deaths

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health announced two coronavirus-related deaths and 45 new cases Friday morning.

The latest fatalities involved one man and one women, each in their 80s.

El Paso County's pandemic death toll now stands at 2,587. There are 20 suspected Covid-19 deaths still being investigated by the health department.

El Paso health department data shows that 50.3% of El Pasoans over the age of 16 are now fully vaccinated, with 67.3% having received at least one dose.

Health department data has not yet been updated to display how many more El Pasoans are now eligible to receive the vaccine. That will result in a change in El Paso's vaccination rate.

The City of El Paso announced it will begin administering the Pfizer vaccine to adolescents as young as 12 starting Thursday at the El Paso Convention Center by either appointment or walk-up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The number of known active virus cases in El Paso County stands at 1,658, the fewest since last June.

There are 103 (-2) Covid-19 patients in El Paso hospitals with 37 (+4) of them in the ICU.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 135,278 confirmed cases with 130,942 reported recoveries.
