Some Borderland parents concerned about lack of mask mandates for schools

EL PASO, Texas -- With schools opening back up across the Borderland, some parents have expressed concerns over the lack of mask requirements.

For the El Paso Independent School District and others, an executive order from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott prohibits schools from requiring masks be worn by everyone in their facilities.

Viewers have e-mailed ABC-7 complaining about incidents of students and faculty members not wearing their masks at school functions.

Some parents say they don't want to send their students to class if other students and faculty are not wearing personal protective equipment out of fear of them contracting the virus.

Region 19 Executive Director Hermando Aguirre says the governor's order ties the hands of local school districts when it comes to being able to impose mask mandates.
