Yanks lose Stanton, LeMahieu to injuries; LeMahieu MRI clean
NEW YORK (AP) — The Yankees lost All-Stars DJ LeMahieu and Giancarlo Stanton to injuries, although the early diagnosis on LeMahieu suggests New York dodged a serious issue. LeMahieu was scratched with left wrist discomfort and Stanton exited a 7-6, 11-inning win over Baltimore with right calf tightness. Major league-leading New York also placed closer Aroldis Chapman on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left Achilles tendinitis and activated catcher Kyle Higashioka from the COVID-19 IL before ending a season-worst three-game skid. LeMahieu was set to lead off and play third base against the Orioles, but New York announced he wouldn’t play about 90 minutes before the first pitch.
