EL PASO, Texas -- An El Paso police officer was bitten by a handcuffed suspect who had been stopped for not having a vehicle registration sticker, according to El Paso police.

Investigators say it happened at the 12000 block of Castle Keep, located off Pebble Hills Blvd near Loop 375.

Police arrested 37-year-old Rogelio Fernando Guevara on June 15 around 10:14 a.m. Police say after Guevara was stopped, he was found to be intoxicated. As the officer was completing the arrest for DWI, police say Guevara tried to run away.

As the officer tried to stop Guevara from fleeing, police say the two fell to the ground; during a violent struggle, Guevara bit the officer.

Police say the officer used a stun gun on Guevara to no effect. Back-up officers arrived and helped secure Guevara.

Guevara was charged with assault on a public servant, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated.
