El Paso, Texas – December 31, 2021 – In December of 2020, El Paso Children’s Hospital (EPCH) strengthened the hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) services through a renewed partnership with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – El Paso
(TTUHSC-EP). As a result, TTUHSC-EP has provided a team of pediatric intensivists for PICU coverage twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year.

“One of our key partners is Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – El Paso. From the hospital’s inception, we have supported the University’s academic and research mission and we take pride in the faculty physicians and residents on our team,” said Cindy Stout, President and CEO of El Paso Children’s Hospital.

Today, EPCH is pleased to announce that through a partnership with the physician group of Roberto Canales, MD PA (Canales Group) the hospital will now have a second team of in-house board certified/board eligible pediatric intensivists. This expansion of services allows EPCH the ability to treat more patients.

“We always strive to provide the highest quality services to our most vulnerable patients. Our hospital has always provided an onsite, board certified/board eligible, pediatric intensivist in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU),” added Stout. “Having such specialized physicians available in-house, around the clock, provides our community the highest level of services for children who need it most.”

EPCH is proud to share that the number of children leaving El Paso for treatment has been reduced by almost 85% since it opened its doors in 2012. The Canales Group partnership, in conjunction with the long-standing commitment from TTUHSC-EP faculty physicians and residents, ensures that all families have the option to stay in El Paso when their children need specialized care.
