Paws and pours for pets

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — El Paso dog lovers can celebrate National Dog Day with their four-legged friends while helping local pets in need.

The Plaza Hotel will host its Paws & Pour Social Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at La Perla, its rooftop bar overlooking downtown El Paso.

The event will feature food and drinks for people, along with special treats created for dogs.

Lawrence Acosta, chef at The Plaza Hotel, told ABC-7 the event has become an annual celebration in partnership with Rescue Runners and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

Guests can bring their dogs and enjoy specialty cocktails, while pups can get their own treats, including a chicken “pupmosa” and treats made by the hotel’s pastry chef.

Tito’s will also provide complimentary Pupuccinos and giveaways, including dog toys, bandanas and pins.

The event will also benefit Rescue Runners, an organization that helps shelter and rescue dogs get out into the community and gain exposure to potential adopters.

Ileene Mendoza, founder of Rescue Runners, joined ABC-7 with a puppy currently looking for a forever home.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring donations to help local animals in need. Items can include blankets, towels, puppy food, dog food, kennels and crates. Monetary donations are also accepted.

Dogs attending the event should be up to date on their vaccinations, comfortable around other animals and kept on a leash.

Tickets are $20 per person.
