EL PASO, Texas -- More than 900 needy families in El Paso and west Texas saw $2.8 million in medical bills wiped out, generously paid for by a local church’s donation.

Abundant Living Faith Center raised $20,000 and donated it to a non-profit corporation called RIP Medical Debt, which was able to get rid of the families' debt.

How does $20,000 translate to $2.8 million?

“This corporation takes a donation, and buys groupings of medical debt at a severely discounted rate. So, a small donation can wipe out millions of dollars in medical debt," explained Pastor Jared Neiman.

Neiman noted that the church doesn't know the identities of the families helped through its’ donation.
