Immunize El Paso launches Flu Awareness Campaign

EL PASO, TX (KVIA) -- Traditionally, the flu season peaks in January or February. However, last year El Paso experienced an early flu season peak in October. To address this concern Immunize El Paso is stepping up its efforts to raise awareness and ensure easy access to flu vaccines with the launch of their Flu Awareness Campaign.

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, poses a significant health risk. It can lead to various health complications, including hospitalization and, in severe cases, even death. Understanding the symptoms is crucial for early detection. These symptoms include cough, fever, muscle and lower body aches, and a runny or stuffy nose.

Daniel Acosta, Director of Immunize El Paso, emphasizes that the most effective shield against the flu is getting vaccinated each year. He encourages everyone, particularly high-risk individuals such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with underlying medical conditions, to prioritize vaccination as  preventive measure.

In addition to vaccination, practicing good hygiene plays a vital role in flu prevention. Frequent hand-washing and staying hydrated are simple yet effective ways to protect yourself and others from the flu virus.

To make vaccination even more accessible, Immunize El Paso is offering flu outreach clinics and mobile clinics throughout El Paso County.

As flu season approaches, it's essential for El Paso residents to stay informed and take proactive steps to protect their health.
