Match for Life: How a husband saved his wife

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso couple Caitlyn and Christian Campa's love showed through a life-saving procedure in June.

Just four months after their wedding, Caitlyn received a stage 4 kidney disease diagnosis called Alport syndrome.

The disease causes the kidney's function to decline by making it difficult for it to filter waste from blood.

It was not a matter of if she needed a kidney transplant, but when.

Caitlyn and Christian were in disbelief that the situation was happening as they started their life as a newlywed couple.

At Las Palmas Medical Center, Christian applied to see if he could match as a living donor.

The results showed that the couple were a match for life.

The couple's kidney transplant took place June 1. Now, one year post-diagnosis and two months post-surgery, Caitlyn is enjoying a new lease on life.
