El Paso parents learn how to live healthier, make nutritious meals for kids

Vista del Sol Elementary had its third of four classes that focus on nutrition and healthy living.

Nutritionist Maria Llamas has been teaching mothers and anyone in the community who is interested in living a better life style.

Llamas explains to the group, “It is very important for the parents to learn what they need to consume themselves, as well as feed their children.”

She gave the parents tricks on how to sneak vegetables into their children’s food.

“Making it into a smoothie, using colorful cups so that way they don’t see the color of the smoothie. “Because sometimes when they see the color of the smoothie they will not eat it.” Llamas said.

Its not just nutrition, she informs those there. Being active is also an important part of being healthy.

Millie Arroyo the parent liaison at the school has learned much over the last three classes.

“She challenged us to eat more fruits and vegetables and to exercise five days a week.” Said the mother.

There is one more class remaining in the program at the school. It is free to attend, the only requirement is that you have an ID when you arrive at campus.
