Art town close to El Paso makes for quick summer getaway

EL PASO, Texas – Just under two hundred miles east of El Paso, Marfa, Texas, is a small art town with a growing art scene. Marfa is a town with a population of 1,500 people and is known for its unique art exhibits.

The town was founded in 1986 by Donald Judd, an artist from New York. Judd wanted a place where he could create art installations, so his search for land began.

Judd found 300 acres of military land in Texas, where he started to build. Since then, other artists have joined and contributed to the town.

The art in Marfa opened the doors for contemporary styles and left room for interpretation. Marfa has attracted different types of people to its exhibits over the years.
