Audition to sing the national anthem at the New Mexico State Fair

KVIA/File

(KVIA) -- The search is on for performers to sing the national anthem at the New Mexico State Fair. A judging committee will choose a singer or small group to perform the anthem to thousands of people at the fair in Albuquerque.

Whoever is selected to sing the anthem will do so at the Tingley Coliseum at the start of seven PCRA events at the fair, Expo New Mexico said.

The judging committee will hold auditions online and in person on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 6-8 p.m. Those who audition virtually should record a video of their performance and send a public link in the space provided on the application.

The deadline to apply and submit a virtual audition is Aug. 24 at 11:59 p.m.

In-person auditions will take place at the African American Performing Arts Center on the fairgrounds at Expo New Mexico (310 San Pedro Dr. NE, in Albuquerque).

Expo New Mexico said individuals and groups of singers of all ages can apply, but groups must have four people or fewer.

The 2026 New Mexico State Fair is set for Sept. 10-20.
