LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KViA) -- Doña Ana County invited residents to add to a time capsule project set to reopen in 2076.

The county said residents can add mementos like posters, letters and pictures that capture what it was like to live in Doña Ana County in 2026. It won't accept any hazardous, illegal or irreplaceable items.

"As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, this time capsule captures a snapshot of life today in Doña Ana County," the county said. "It preserves the stories, experiences and milestones of our community for future generations, offering a glimpse into who we are and what matters to our people at this historic moment in our nation’s history."

Residents can drop off their items Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2480 Lakeside Dr. in Las Cruces. Submissions will close Dec. 8.
