6 Las Cruces High School Football Coaches Placed On Leave

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A Las Cruces area high school football team takes a big hit Friday. Six of its coacheshave beensuspended.

School officials anounced today that 6 coaches, 5 of whom are teachers, from Onate High School have been placed on administrative leave. “It’s a distraction we’re 23 hours away from playing Cibola [High School], but we’re going to move and get ready to play,” saidCoachKelly McKee who says he is now down to a staff of only five coaches including himself.

Las Cruces Public Schools’officials are tight-lipped about the reason for the suspensions saying only that they are related to district policy violations. They say because this is an on-going internal investigation there is very little information they can release at this time. It is known thatthe handful of coaches have been supended with pay, and that the sixth coach involved in the this suspension is not an employee of Onate High.

School offficials do confirm the allegations they are investigating do not involve students, and at no time were students endangered. Onate head football Coach Kelly McKee says the suspensions come at a crucial time for the team.
