Lawsuit Against The Cross In The City Of The Crosses

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Paul Weinbaum isn’t done with the city of Las Cruces just yet.

The city’s logo has likenesses ofcrosses; Paul Weinbaum believes the three crosses within it are a violation of the constitution. Of course, Las Cruces is Spanish for “the crosses,” but Weinbaum feels using religious symbols in the city logo is not proper “separation of church and state.”

Last year, Weinbaum saw lawsuits he had filed against the city and the Las Cruces Public School district thrown out. But now the 10th U.S. Court of Appeals has scheduled a hearing on one of his cases. No oral arguments will be presented. The court simply plans to rule based on records and transcripts of the school district case.
