Quinn Cruz Found Guilty On Charge Of Murder

EL PASO, TX. – Quinn Cruz, the man accused of shooting and killing Tonya West has been found guilty on a chargeof capital murder.

The jury returned their verdict Thursday at 1:45p.m. Deliberations began at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning and the jury only took3 hours to return their decision. Quinn Cruz was accused of shooting 25-year-old Tonya West in the parking lot of an apartment complex on El Paso’s Westside on November 18th, 2005 as she was putting her baby in a car seat of her car.

Doctor Juan Contin testified earlier in the week that Tonya was 20-days pregnant when she was killed. Wednesday, the defense rebutted this argument with information about the timing of blood testing West while in the emergency room. The defense noted that West received several liters of blood transfused while emergency room crews worked to save her. This argumentwas useddetermine whether Cruz would be sentenced for killing Tonya only or an unborn fetus as well.

Because of the type of charge Quinn faced, he will automatically receive a life sentence for West’s murder.
