Woman Ordered To Stand Trial In Slaying

DEMING, N.M. (AP) – A Deming magistrate says a Louisiana woman should be tried on a charge of solicitation of murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in a well near Deming in August 2006.

Beverly Likes cried as Luna County Magistrate Ray Baese found probable cause yesterday to bind her over to state district court. She’s charged in the February 2006 death of 50-year-old Melinda Widby.

Likes’ son, Chester Likes, was sentenced to life in prison last November in Widby’s death. He pleaded guilty last March to first-degree murder in exchange for the life sentence.

Authorities say and another man have agreed to testify against Beverly Likes.
