Heroin Found In Boots Of Bus Passenger In Laredo

LAREDO, Texas (AP) – These boots weren’t made for walking. Customs agents at a Laredo port of entry found nearly two pounds of heroin hidden in the soles of boots in the luggage of a commercial bus passenger.

Authorities say the heroin is worth about $170,000. The bust happened Tuesday afternoon as the man on the bus, which was traveling from Mexico to Texas, was selected for a secondary inspection.

An imaging system noted something unusual within the boots. Officers arrested 40-year-old Jose Angel Romero of Fort Worth on federal drug charges.
