CBP Agents Seize Over 3 Tons Of Drugs, Almost $2M In Currency

EL PASO — Agents with Customs & Border Protection working at various ports of entry in El Paso, West Texas and New Mexico seized over three tons of marijuana and nearly $2 million in undeclared currency during inspection operations the last week of February.

There were 36 marijuana seizures totaling 6,196 pounds of the drug, the largest of which was 2,366 made at the Bridge of the Americas on Monday.

In a separate incident at the same port of entry, agents discovered and confiscated $1,858,085 in undeclared U.S. currency entering the country hidden in door panels of an SUV. The total of five currency seizures reached $1,961,557 during the week .

Over 120 people were prevented from entering the country for various immigration violations, including those with legal entry documents wanting to live/work illegally in the U.S., those posing as other individuals, false claims of citizenship and those attempting to enter with fraudulent documents.
