Man Accused In Kidnapping Hoax Now In Jail

EL PASO COUNTY, Texas — A man accused of faking his own kidnapping was booked into the El Paso County Jail early Monday morning. El Paso County Sheriff’s Investigators said Juan Carlos Rivas, 31, claimed he was abducted, forced to drink transmission fluid and stuffed in a car trunk.

Investigators said Rivas was actually out partying with two women.

“What he was doing was deterring people that actually needed help. What he was doing was taking taxpayers’ money,” said Jesse Tovar, a deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Dept.

Police charged Rivas with making a false report. He faces up to two years in prison.
