Perry Announces ‘Blue Alert’ Program To Catch Fugitives

AUSTIN (AP) – A plan announced today by Governor Rick Perry is meant to help find criminals who flee after killing or seriously hurting a law officer.

Perry says the “Blue Alert” Network will help authorities locate fugitives after officers are attacked in the line of duty.

The Blue Alert project involves the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management and the Department of Transportation.

An offender’s vehicle information will be displayed across the state via TxDOT highway message signs and media broadcasts.

The Blue Alert program is similar to the Amber Alert program to help find missing and abducted children, and Silver Alerts for missing senior citizens.
