La Mujer Obrera, Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Receive $2 Million

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded the El Puente Community Development Corporation and La Mujer Obrera and Ysleta del Sur Pueblo with over two million dollars in economic development investments.

The two investments, totaling $2,264,250, are anticipated to create nearly 500 new jobs and more than $300,000 in private investment leverage, officials with Hutchison’s office said.

The El Puente Community Development Corporation and La Mujer Obrera investment will educate workers, particularly women and other low-income members of the community, and create new businesses through the Centro Maypan Social Enterprise Innovation Center.

The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo investment will help renovate tribally-owned property with the investment for the Tigua Business Center. This center will help tribal members in developing and operating successful businesses.
