Congressman Reyes Announces New Grants

U.S. Congressman Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso, announced Thursday that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded close to $12.4 million in federal grants for the El Paso community.

HUD awarded four grants totaling $12,394,439 to the City of El Paso. These grants include $8,410,415 in Community Development Block Grant Initiative funds, $3,588,536 in Home Investments Partnership funds, $375,258 in Emergency Shelter Grant funds, and $20,230 in American Dream Downpayment Initiative funds.

The aim of these four grants is to fund decent housing and economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income families, improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters, and provide necessary resources for downpayment and closing cost assistance.
