New EPCC Police Chief Served 20 Years In EPPD

EL PASO — A former El Paso Community College graduate, and 20 year veteran of the El Paso Police Department,will take over for former EPCC Police Chief J.R. Grijalva, who died January 31st.

College officials said Jos L. Ramrez earned an associate’s degree from EPCC after he graduated from El Paso High in 1976.

According to them, Ramirezsaid he has new plans for the college, but will continue some of the programs started by Chief Grijalva, including the Tejano Alert System.

The new EPCC police chief worked with the El Paso Police Department for 20 years before retiring as a commander in May 2006. He also worked two years as Sunland Park police chief before taking the job at EPCC.

Ramrez also holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Park College and master’s degrees in Political Science, Public Administration and Criminal Justice from Sul Ross State University.
