12-Year-Old Boy Who Shot Himself Dies In Hospital

EL PASO COUNTY, Texas — A 12-year-old boy who shot himself in the head Tuesday night died Wednesday afternoon at Thomason Hospital, El Paso County Sheriff’s officials said.

The boy was identified a Brandon Garcia. He attended Hurshel Antwine MiddlesSchool.

“We’ve seen grief, we’ve seen disbelief, we’ve seen sadness, and we’ve seen pride,” Stacy Sonnier, the principal at his school. Officials say that is where theboy went to school.

“Right now, It’s just a roller coaster of emotions because it’s really raw,” Sonnier added. she described the boy as a fun and loving character who wet out of his way to help others at the school.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office had been investigating the incident as an accidental shooting. However, no other details about the investigation have been released.

About 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies found the boy lying on a bedroom floor at a home in the 3500 block of Whitetail Deer in Montana Vista. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, sheriff’s officials said.
