UTEP Awarded Over $385,000 To Reduce Nursing Shortage

EL PASO — The UTEP School of Nursing has been awarded $385,582 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to increase its number of nursing graduates, UTEP officials said.

UTEP saw a 28 percent increase in nursing graduates during 2008. The university is one of only 12 state universities to receive the funding, and the amount was the largest given to any university in the state.

Administrators will use the funding to provide temporary salary supplements for nursing faculty and to hire additional faculty.
