Citizens’ Commission Looks To Fight Public Corruption
EL PASO — A group of concerned residents — including attorneys, business people, scholars, clergy, and former politicians — has been meeting for two years to find ways to fight corruption.
The “Citizens’ Commission On Best Practices In Government” was formed in response to corruption scandals that have plagued local government bodies in the past few years.
Attorney Enrique Moreno, the committee chairman, says corruption is an issue that affects us all. “It affects public trust, it affects public participation,” he said, “We think the implications of this are far-reaching.”
Moreno says the group will not take the place of courts or law enforcement.Instead, they will seek input to decide what is ethical for this community and promote those standards in local governments.
