Sumrall Slowly Recovering; Search Continues For His Dog

El Paso, Texas – Bob Sumrall, the El Paso hiker who was missing for six days in the Gila National Forest a few weeks ago, is doing better, according to his family.

Family members tell ABC-7 Sumrall is walking and even talking a little bit. Sumrall had a tracheotomy after he was rescued.

ABC-7 also has new information on Sumrall’s dog, Zulu, who helped keep him warm by lying on top of him during the ordeal.

Zulu is still missing, but a camera placed along a hiking trail caught a dog on the video that appears to be Zulu.

A member of El Paso’s Animal Rescue League says they will go back out to the area after the new year to continue their search.
