NMSU Announces 2010 Football Schedule

New Mexico State head football coach DeWayne Walker announced the Aggies’ 2010 schedule on Monday.

In 2010, the Aggies face four bowl teams from the 2009 season, as well as two rivalry games and a Big 12 opponent. All home games in 2010 will be played at 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

“We are excited about opening the season with San Diego State and it will be a good challenge for us right off the bat,” head coach DeWayne Walker said in a news release. “Heading into year two we feel more comfortable in terms of where the program is headed in rebuilding this program. We would like to have a bye week in there but we will be very strategic with playing 12 games straight and trying to improve on our record from last year.”

NM State plays six home games and six away games in 2010. The Aggies’ four non-conference games feature the Mountain West’s San Diego State, Big 12 standout Kansas and two of NM State’s biggest rivals in the UTEP Miners and the New Mexico Lobos.

The Aggies open the season at home onSept. 11against San Diego State. NM State faced the Aztecs in 2009, falling 34-17. The Aggies then travel to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP at the Sun Bowl on September 18th. NM State has won two of the last three games against the Miners, including their last trip to El Paso in 2008.

The Aggies hit the road for their second straight game away from home on September 25th against the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. The series between the Aggies and the Jayhawks is tied at 1-1, as both teams last met back in 1991. The first meeting in the series was in 1988. NM State will then open conference play against Boise State on October 2nd.

The Aggies will take a quick break from conference play on October 9th as the New Mexico Lobos come to town for the 101st meeting between the two schools. Last season, NM State beat the Lobos 20-17, for its first win in the series since 2002. The Aggies then hit the road for two straight, facing Fresno State on October 16th followed by a trip to Moscow, Idaho to take on the Idaho Vandals, October 23rd.

Over the last five games of the season, the Aggies will have three homes games, starting with San Jose State on October 30th. The Aggies then travel to Logan, Utah for a game against the Utah State Aggies on November 6th. Louisiana Tech comes to Las Cruces on November 13th.

Reno, Nev., is NM State’s next stop on November 20th before rounding out the regular season at home against the Hawai’i Warriors on November 27th.
