Strong Winds Lift Jumping Balloon Over Two Homes, 3 Children Injured

Three children were hospitalized with serious injuries after strong winds lifted the jumping balloon they were playing in, according to officials with the fire department.

The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the 7300 block of Alpine in the Lower Valley.

Fire officials said the children, who were between the ages of 2 and 7 years old, were injured after the jumping balloon landed on a hard concrete surface in the backyard of a residence. The strong winds lifted the balloon over two properties, witnesses said.

The condition of the children is unknown, but witnesses at the scene said a 7-year-old girl was unresponsive when her parents took her out of the deflated jumping balloon. The father of the girl told ABC-7 he had to perform CPR on her and she finally responded.

Witnesses said the strong winds also lifted the electrical wind generator used to fill up the jumping balloon.
