Woman Killed In Crash Tuesday Night

A 39-year-old Sunland Park woman became El Paso’s 16th traffic fatality Tuesday night.

At about 11:36 p.m., Rebecca Villalobos, of the 4400 block of McNutt, was driving near the 2200 block of W. Paisano when she drifted towards the center median.

Villalobos then over-corrected to the right which caused her to lose control of the Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle then slid across two lanes of traffic and into the raised dirt shoulder which separates the roadway from a railroad track.

Villalobos’ Jeep then rolled over and came to rest on the railroad tracks. Villalobos was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

There were no other vehicles or individuals involved in this collision. Speed and failure to wear a seat belt are factors in the fatal collision, according to police officials.

Police said it is unknown if alcohol is a factor at this time.

This is the 16th traffic fatality of 2010 compared to 11 at this same time last year.
