Naomi Gonzalez Defeats Norma Chavez In State Rep. Race

Assistant County Attorney Naomi Gonzalez has defeated incumbent Norma Chavez in the race for State Representative District 76.

Gonzalez had 3,624 votes or 53 percent of the vote compared to 3,264 votes or 47 percent for of the vote for Chavez.

Gonzalez has never held political office before, while Chavez has represented District 76 since 1996.

The winner of the race is not facing a Republican opponent in the November general election and will serve a two-year term in the state legislature. The 82nd Legislature will convene on Jan. 11 and end May 30.
