Friendship That’s Lasted Since Middle School Ends In Punches Over Girlfriend

A friendship that began in middle school ended with a flurry of punches after one of the men admitted to having a relationship with the other’s girlfriend, El Paso Police officials said on Tuesday.

Daniel Menchaca, 22, of the 1600 block of Dennis Babjack, admitted to Kristopher Gutierrez, 22, of the 2000 block of Curt Byrum, that he had been involved in a relationship with Gutierrez’s girlfriend, according to police.

After hearing the news, Gutierrez then allegedly punched Menchaca repeatedly in the face and chest, causing facial fractures and bruising to the brain. Menchaca was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Gutierrez was arrested and booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a single charge of Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a second degree felony. His bond totaled is set at $15,000.
