Police Release Name Of Man Killed By Homeowner In Burglary Attempt

El Paso Police have identified the man that was shot and killed in an alleged burglary attempt in a home in Northeast El Paso Wednesday early morning.

Steven Abeita, 20, of the 3000 block of Zion, allegedly illegally entered the home of Paul Daw on the 8000 block of Tonto shortlyl before 5 a.m. on May 5, 2010.

Once inside the home, Abeita was confronted by Daw. Daw attempted to physically restrain Abeita, however, Abeita assaulted Daw.

Daw then shot Abeita multiple times in defense of himself and his family, police said.

Abeita was taken to William Beaumont Army Medical Center for treatment where he died of his injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing. Once detectives complete their investigation the case will be presented to the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office for final disposition.
