Toddler Rushed To Hospital After Falling Into Pool

A 2-year-old toddler is fighting for his life at a west El Paso hospital after he accidentally fell into a swimming pool, according to a police spokesman.

The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in the Rancho Sereno gated community. It’s located in the 900 block of Vereda Del Valle.

According to police, the boy was playing outside with his 8-year-old brother for about 10 to 15 minutes without any supervision. The mother told investigators the older boy went back inside and that’s when she asked where the toddler was.

The mother ran outside and saw the body of the toddler at the bottom of the pool. She dove into the pool to get her boy out and then called for help. Investigators believe the child lost one of his toys in the pool and fell in when he was trying to get it out. The pool did not have a gate around it, investigators added.

Paramedics were able to revive the toddler at the scene but he was rushed to a local hospital. The police department’s Crime Scene Unit and Crimes Against Person’s Unit were called out the scene. However, the child’s near drowning is being called “accidental.”
