Miss New Mexico Isn’t Competing For Miss USA Title Alone
In case you haven’t heard, two UTEP students – Miss New Mexico and Miss Texas – are competing to become the next Miss USA.
23-year-old Rosanne Aguilar is an experienced titleholder in beauty pageants. The Miss New Mexico USA winner says she’s prepared her whole life to be crowned the next Miss USA.
“It’s definitely a dream come true,” says Rosanne, adding, “I worked very hard for this. I definitely believe I’m deserving, so hopefully it’ll be in the cards.”
Rosanne follows in the footsteps of her older sister Raleane – a former Miss New Mexico USA – who’s been with Rosanne every step of the way.
“I was a nervous wreck and as soon as they announced her, I had a feeling inside…I was like, this is her year,” says Raleane.
A year Rosanne dedicates to one handsome young man – their nine-year-old nephew Zian. “He was our little angel, always here, our number one fan,” says Raleane.
Zian died of cancer two years ago. Now, Rosanne uses her tiara to help his message shine.
“The Miss New Mexico title, as well as Miss USA – I can definitely reach out to children afflicted with cancer and (help) find a cure for cancer,” said Rosanne.
“I know he’s watching over her, and we’re really excited and I’m sure he will grant her that wish,” says Raleane.
A UTEP senior studying to be a pediatrician…it’s Rosanne’s love for children that makes everything worth it for her.
She recalls “seeing a child smile, when they come up to me and say, ‘Oh, you’re Miss New Mexico’ and especially the little girls that look up at my crown and just smile.”
“She is in it to win it; she looks at those judges like ‘This is mine; give it to me already’,” says Raleane.
No matter what happens, when that final moment arrives at the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas, Rosanne knows she won’t be alone.
