Incoherent Woman Charged With DWI After Pulling Over To Urinate By Road

El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 22-year-old woman on Tuesday night after she allegedly drove while intoxicated with her two child.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of the 12500 block of Montana near EPCSO HQ in reference a female exposing herself and possibly intoxicated. Deputies arrived and observed a tan vehicle with both driver and passenger car doors open pulled over on the side of the roadway just off of Montana Ave.

Deputies made contact with the driver, Lynn Martell, of the 3000 block of Hercules, and immediately noticed she was highly intoxicated as they smelled a strong odor of alcohol emitting form her person as well as the interior of the vehicle, sheriff’s officials said.

The keys were still in the ignition and deputies learned the Martell had pulled over to urinate on the side of the roadway. Deputies had a hard time understanding Martell because of her level of intoxication.

Deputies checked the interior of the vehicle and found a 4-month-old girl and a 2-year-old girl. Both children were improperly secured.

Martell was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age and two counts of abandoning/endangering a child-criminal negligence. She remains in the El Paso County Detention Facility. The children were turned over to a family member. Sheriff’s investigators are also referring the case to Child Protective Services.
