Las Cruces Man Arrested On Sexual Exploitation Charges Involving Children

The Las Cruces Police Department – using technology to combat cybersex crimes against children – has resulted in the arrest of a man on 68 counts of manufacturing, distribution and possession of child pornography plus two related charges, according to a police news release.

Derek Boberg, 22, of the 100 block of Mimosa Lane, is charged with 26 counts of sexual exploitation of a child – manufacturing photos or images; 35 counts of sexual exploitation of a child – possession of photos or images; six counts of sexual exploitation of a child – distribution; one count of sexual exploitation of a child – cause or permit; and one county each of criminal sexual communication with a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

In March 2010, Las Cruces Police learned that Boberg allegedly received pornographic images or videos of children on a computer at his residence.

A follow-up investigation revealed that Boberg also was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with a 14-year-old girl from Albuquerque. The extent of that relationship is being investigated by authorities in that city.

Boberg was arrested Friday, May 28, and is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set a $545,000.
