Sun Metro Offers Help For Seniors To Beat Heat

With temperatures expected to reach into the 100-plus degrees over the next few days, Sun Metro is encourageing El Paso?s senior citizens to step onboard a bus and take a cool trip to any popular, air-conditioned destination such as the mall, area movie theaters, recreational centers, libraries or museums.

While people of all ages are sensitive to extreme temperatures, the elderly population is more prone to heat-related illnesses. Seniors looking to save money on their utilities or living without air conditioning can ride Sun Metro to refrigerated buildings.

Seniors can ride any regular (fixed-route) bus for just 30 cents per trip with a valid ID card. Active seniors looking to save money can purchase a weekly pass for $2.50 or a monthly pass for $10. The passes are good for an unlimited number of bus trips for the life of the pass and can be used on any regular routes, except County Routes 83 and 84.

Weekly passes can be purchased on any regular bus and at a Sun Metro ticket vending machine located at the Downtown Transfer Center (601 Santa Fe) and the Westside Transfer Center (7535 Remcon).

Monthly passes can be purchased at any public library, Sun Metro ticket vending machine, or at a Sun Metro ticket office located at the Eastside Transit Terminal (1165 Sunmount) and the Downtown Transfer Center (601 Santa Fe).

Sun Metro reminds all of its passengers to drink plenty of water and to protect their skin by wearing sun block and using an umbrella.
