Early Morning Standoff In Westway Ends Peacefully

A SWAT situation in Westway ended peacefully early Sunday morning.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 800 block of Tiffany Road around 2:15 a.m. According to a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, a family on that block was having a party when a neighbor complained about the noise.

That led to a disagreement between the neighbors that escalated quickly. When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, a 20-year-old man holding a shotgun ran into a home. No one inside the home would answer the door, according to authorities.

A SWAT team was called to the scene, as were crisis negotiators, and at 5:00 a.m., after several hours of attempted negotiations which resulted in no contact with the man, the SWAT team entered the home.

ABC-7 was told Sheriff’s Deputies sent a robot with a camera into the home, and were able to determine where in the house the man was hiding.

Officials say the man, 20-year-old Deni Aaron Torres, was very intoxicated and actually passed out when they found him. Upon further investigation, authorities found out the shotgun was reported stolen from a person in Dona Ana County, New Mexico in 2007.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Torres and booked him on several charges – aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a prohibited weapon, and theft.
