Firefighters Battling Wildfires In Guadalupe Mountains

Fire crews from all over the region and even as far as Colorado are in Dell City, hoping their massive response will help control wildfires that have been burning out of control in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, which is about 100 miles east of El Paso.

For residents of nearby Dell City, their daily work is being interrupted by what’s smoking in their horizon.

The community is one of proud farmers and stewards of their lands, which is why the fire is giving them reason to be concerned.

Laura Lynch Realtor is a Dell City native. She says looking at the smoking peaks outside her window has her hoping something is done fast.

Although the flames are moving away from Dell City, Laura says it’s not so much the houses and people who are in danger but rather the lands in their backyard that are considered precious.

Fire crews will be working around the clock to control the fire. However, officials still have no estimate on when they could get this under control. Over the weekend, the number of acres charred by the fire increased from 4,300 to more than 7,100.
