Anthony New Mexico Mother Allegedly Beat 5 Year Old Daughter

Bruised, bitten, and massive head trauma. You first heard here on ABC-7, a horrific child abuse case out of Anthony, New Mexico that has left a 5 year old girl hanging on for her life. The little girl, named Angel, remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso. Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Investigators say, Angel is resting in an induced coma after an alleged beating. As we’ve reported, Angel’s mother, 27 year old Jessica Barron, is accused of child abuse resulting in great bodily injury and tampering with evidence. In a quiet neighborhood, a swing set outside a house just North of Anthony, New Mexico is likely where Angel once played. But behind closed doors, is where DASO investigators say they believe Barron severely beat her little Angel. Deputies present at the hospital, say the girl is coated with bruises and puncture wounds, including a bite mark on the back of her right ankle. According to the Statement of Facts, investigators learned Angel suffered a massive brain injury, and several muscle spasms because of it. ABC-7 spoke with Dona Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez who says, there were multiple children in the home at the time of the incident. This includes a 2 year old child, who voluntarily provided investigators with her account of what happened.

“The child did in an interview in a Statement of Facts report, that mom was hitting the child with a stick,” Martinez said. “And then she subsequently took the officer to the home and tried to locate the instrument. It was very clear on video about what she saw and how she thought her sister was O.K. because she stopped moving.”

Martinez also says, Barron had virtually no reaction to Angel’s hospitalized state. If Angel pulls through, her mother faces a maximum 18 year sentence. If she does not survive, Barron could get life in prison. The investigation is ongoing. Stay with ABC-7 for the latest coverage.
