68-Year-Old Woman Dies After Struck By Car At Race

A 68-year-old woman was struck and killed Sunday afternoon by a mud bog dragster during a mud race event in Tornillo.

During one of the races, a driver lost control of his vehicle and it entered the crowd of spectators. The woman, who was seated in the crowd, was struck by the vehicle and pinned her against a Chevrolet Pickup truck.

First responders & Life Ambulance Medics quickly tended to the injured woman transporting her to University Medical Center. The 68-year-old woman later died at the hospital due to the injuries she sustained. The deceased was identified as Martha Camacho of Fabens.

Further investigation revealed other spectators also suffered injuries as a result of the vehicle going into the crowd. Among the victims included; 36-year-old Lorena Rayos, of the 19000 block of Knox Tornillo, TX (suffered burns to left arm) & 1-year-old Selene Camacho, of the 1000 block of N. Fabens Rd. Fabens (suffered abrasions to face). Both were conscious and alert but were transported to University Medical Center for further treatment.

The driver of the Mug Buggy vehicle is a 47-year-old man from Fort Hancock. He will not be identified at this time as an investigation continues.
