Magazine: El Paso One Of Country’s Least Patriotic Cities

El Paso is near the bottom of a list of 100 patriotic cities, according to a list compiled by Men’s Health magazine.

El Paso ranks 99 out of 100. The magazine’s list is based on rankings that calculated the percentage of registered voters who turned out for state and federal elections from 2004 to 2008 (Dave Leip’s Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections); money spent on military veterans per capita (Department of Veterans Affairs); percentage of residents who volunteer, participate in civic activities, and/or work with neighbors (Volunteering in America); and sales of fireworks and U.S. flags (SimplyMap and americanflags.com respectively).

El Pasos’s rankings: Volunteer Rate: 97th, spending on vets: 13th, voter turnout: 100th, fireworks spending: 39th, flag sales: 62nd.

Portland, Ore. ranked No. 1 on the list.
