Minivan Crashes Into Bus Downtown

El Paso Police investigators said a minivan ran a red light and crashed into a Sun Metro bus Downtown Tuesday morning.

The prelimary investigation revealed that a Sun Metro Bus was traveling west on Missouri and had entered the intersection at Mesa with a green light when, at the same time, a 2008 Dodge Caravan was traveling north on Mesa and entered the intersection at Missouri against the red light, according to police officials.

The front of the bus struck the right side of Dodge Caravan. The result of the collision caused the van to spin and come to rest on the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver and one passenger in the Caravan received nonlifethreatening injuries, while another passenger in the Caravan received serious injuries and all were transported University Medical Center (UMC).

The operator of the bus received no injuries. The bus had seven passengers at the time of the collision and two were transported to Las Palmas Hospital with minor injuries.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
