El Pasoan, Horizon City Resident Killed In 18-Wheeler Crash Near Loraine, Texas

Two men were killed early Tuesday morning in Mitchell County in a one-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler.

Lorenzo Munoz, 39, of Horizon City, and Roger Franceware, 32, of El Paso, were pronounced dead at the scene at 2:53 a.m., according to a report in the Abilene Reporter-News.

According to Senior Trooper Sparky Dean, the weather was clear and the road was dry when the 18-wheeler ran off Interstate 20 at 1:16 a.m., two miles west of Loraine, and into the center median. Traveling eastbound, the truck hit the cable barrier and guardrail, which sent it airborne as it traveled down the overpass, where it crashed into a cement pillar and the concrete embankment. The truck then slid into a creekbed and caught fire.
