Obama Holds Talk In Backyard Of UTEP Grad In Iowa

President Barack Obama paid a brief visit this morning to the home of UTEP graduate Sandra Hatfield Clubb to discuss the challenges faced by the middle class during a town hall meeting.

About 70 of her neighbors participated in this event in Des Moines, Iowa, which is part of Obama’s efforts to touch base with regular people around the country. His plan was to have a similar event in Virginia later today. Yesterday the President had a backyard discussion in Albuquerque, N.M., and a rally in Madison, Wis.

Hatfield Clubb graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso with a bachelor’s in marketing 1987 and a master’s in Instructional Specialist/Kinesiology in 1989. She was the 2009 Gold Nugget from the College of Health Sciences.

The former Miner is the director of athletics at Drake University, in Des Moines. Hatfield Clubb previously served as the senior associate athletic director at Arizona State University where she created a life skills program for student athletes that gained national recognition as a Program of Excellence by the Division 1A Athletic Directors Association.
