UPDATE: Fire Outside Mattress Store In East El Paso

A fire broke outside of a mattress store in east El Paso early Saturday.

Emergency radio transmissions indicated the fire broke out around 2 a.m. near the loading dock and dumpster of the Popular Mattress store near Interstate 10 and Hawkins on the east side.

Police also had to be called to control area traffic.

Emergency crews said the store’s owner got to the scene around 4 a.m. Saturday. There is no immediate word on the potential cause of the fire, but damage has been estimated at $75,000.

Investigators said there was no damage inside the actual store.
